Three security guards and two robbery suspects were killed in shooting incidents reported from Kempton Park and Benoni in Gauteng.

ER24 said two bystanders were also critically wounded following the shooting incident on the corner of Dann and Monument Roads late Tuesday afternoon.

Spokesperson, Ross Campbell, said ER24 paramedics arrived on the scene to find a security company bakkie riddled with bullet holes and driven off the road at the intersection.

“Three male security guards were found in the bakkie having suffered fatal gunshot wounds,” he said.

A fourth security guard, a 35-year-old male, had run into a nearby shop where he was found to have suffered gunshot wounds to the back and stomach and was in a critical condition.

“A male bystander of unknown age was also found to have suffered a gunshot wound to the face and was in a critical condition.”

According to a police report, a joint team of SAPS members and EMPD pursued the suspects' VW Polo from Kempton Park up to Kanna Street in Benoni.

“The suspects were eventually cornered in Beach Street, Northmead Extension 4 following an exchange of gunfire with the police,” said police spokesperson Kay Makubela.

“Two suspects were fatally wounded. The third suspect, who was the driver, was wounded and taken to hospital where he is under police guard,” he said.

Makubela said police recovered two AK47 rifles while the hunt for the remaining gang is continuing.
