Five people have been killed, and two others seriously injured, in a head-on collision between two cars on the N8 near Bloemfontein in the Free State.
Netcare911's Jeffrey Wicks says the cause of Saturday evening's accident is not known.
He says one of the drivers steered his vehicle into the path of the other.
Wicks says five occupants of both vehicles, three of one and two of the other, died at the scene.
He says the injured were transported by ambulance to state medical facilities in Bloemfontein.
