Five children were killed when a bakkie they were travelling in rolled several times in Mitchells Plain on Tuesday morning.
ER 24 says the incident happened at around 8 o'clock on A Z Berman Drive.
Spokesperson, Russel Meiring, says when their paramedics arrived on the scene they found the bakkie upright in the middle of the road, with several children scattered some distance away from the vehicle.
He says other services were on the scene, and the children, aged between 13 and 16, were declared dead on the scene.
Meiring says one person sustained critical injuries and was provided with numerous advanced life support interventions.
The exact cause of the accident will form part of the culpable homicide investigation.
It is believed that a light delivery vehicle, minibus taxi and Golden Arrow bus were involved in the deadly crash.
Details about the driver are not yet clear.
Cape Town Mayor Geordin Hill-Lewis has expressed the City’s deepest condolences to the families of the children who lost their lives.
He said the scene had been secured by police.
