A firefighter truck was burnt down in Soweto, south of of Johannesburg on Thursday morning, as residents protested against power cuts in the area.
Emergency services spokesperson, Robert Mulaudzi says the truck was passing through the area when protesters from a nearby hostel approached it and started pelting it with stones.
He says the group stoned the truck, as the firefighters tried to pass through, and then gutted it completely.
Mulaudzi says one of the firefighters was injured and taken to hospital for treatment.
The protests started on Wednesday, when the hostel residents took to the streets to protest against power cuts.
No arrests have been made.
