Fire-fighters being trooped in to help contain blaze in Garden Route National Park

Fire-fighters battling a blaze in hard-reach parts of the Garden Route National Park, had to be trooped in on Monday to help contain the blaze that has been raging for several days.

The Parks planning manager, Len du Plessis, says they deployed four hours of aerial resources to fight the active fire line.

He says these included two Huey helicopters, a water bomber and spotter plane as well as a Titan helicopter to troop in firefighters to the fire line.

Du Plessis says there has been no damage to infrastructure and no loss of life as the fire is mainly in the fynbos areas of the Park.

Du Plessis says it is extremely difficult to access the area and teams have to be trooped in, four at a time via helicopter.

He says visibility also makes it difficult to bomb the fire.
