Finance Minister cuts planned expenditure within government departments

Finance Minister Nhlanhla Nene says planned expenditure within government departments, such as travel and subsistence, conferencing and catering have been cut.
In tabling his 4.4 trillion rand Medium Term Budget Policy Statement in parliament on Wednesday, he said that advertising and communication budgets had also been reduced.
However, Minister Nene said that allocations for consultant services had been kept.
He said that such expenditure cuts would contribute to billions of rands in saving over the next two years.
Nene added that provincial governments would receive 469-billion rand next year, while local governments would receive 91-billion rand.
He said special attention was needed on the containing of personal expenditure within provincial spending.
