Fifth suspect arrested for Mooinooi murders-victims still missing


A fifth man was arrested in connection with the mysterious missing of two women from Mooinooi in the outskirts of Brits, North West police said on Wednesday.

Warrant Officer Mpeile Talane said Moses Rakubu, 33, appeared in the Brits Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday and his case was postponed to January 5 for a bail application.

He is charged alongside Aaron Sithole, 23, Koos Strydom, 53, Alex Mudau, 36, and a teenager. All would apply for bail on January 5.

They are facing two counts of murder, kidnapping, robbery, unlawful possession of a firearm and defeating the course of justice.

The State alleged that they kidnapped, robbed and killed Joey van Niekerk, 32, and Gesina Sophia Anisha van Niekerk, 30, of Mooinooi.

The two went missing on December 10, they left for a funeral in Pretoria but never arrived. Their car was found burnt on December 16 in the Magaliesburg area. Their bodies had not been found.
