DURBAN, May (ANA) - Students and staff at the Mangosuthu University of Technology are reeling after a 21-year-old female student was shot and killed at the Lonsdale residence, based in Durban.
According to police, Zolile Khumalo, a first-year quantity surveying student, was shot dead on Tuesday night. MUT confirmed the young woman’s death, saying the institution was “shocked” at the incident.
It is suspected that a former student, aged 23, was signed into the residence by a current student, and shot Khumalo.
KwaZulu-Natal police spokesperson, lieutenant colonel Thulani Zwane said the man was arrested at the scene and would appear in court “soon”. The motive for the arrest was not yet known, he said.
