Eskom makes wage offer with proposed draft agreement - Numsa

Metalworkers union, NUMSA says it met with other unions, and the Eskom management as part of the Central Bargaining Forum on Friday.

NUMSA Secretary-general, Irvin Jim says they deliberated for almost twelve hours and finally, Eskom made a wage offer with a proposed draft agreement.

He says they will consult with their members first before they give a formal response to Eskom.

"We understand that the entire country is watching these talks with keen interest because resolving this is in the public interest, and there is a lot of pressure for us to give a response right away. However, we ask for the public’s patience because we are a worker-controlled union", Jim said.

He says they have a duty to consult members first.

Jim says they will meet with Eskom management again on Tuesday to give feedback in the Bargaining Forum.

Eskom has blamed the ongoing industrial action for its decision to implement stage 6 load shedding this week.

The utility said stage 2 power cuts would continue overnight on Saturday and Sunday, while stage 4 would be implemented from 7am to 10pm.
