Eskom employee and accomplice in court for allegedly stealing copper cables

An Eskom employee and the owner of a scrap metal and recycling company are expected to appear in the Polokwane Magistrates Court on Monday.

The men aged 37 and 31 were arrested just outside of the city in Westenburg last week Thursday for the possession of copper wires, allegedly stolen.

Police Spokesperson Brigadier Motlafela Mojapelo says police received a tip-off about a man offloading copper wires at a house in Greenside and responded immediately.

He says police searched the house and found copper cables with an estimated street value of R100 000 hidden inside.

Brigadier Mojapelo says the suspect was arrested on the spot.

He says a further investigation led them to the suspect's alleged accomplice which turned out to be an Eskom employee who is alleged to have stolen the copper.
