Eskom can't guarantee a summer without load shedding

Power utility Eskom cannot guarantee that there won’t be any load shedding during the summer months.

This is according to Eskom CEO Jabu Mabuza, who briefed media on Wednesday morning at the power utility’s headquarters.

Mabuza says Eskom is doing everything in its power to avoid load shedding.

He says the winter showed positive results but the utility would now have to focus on the summer period.

Mabuza says Summer comes with its own set of challenges such as higher temperatures which will result in appliances (such as fans) to be on an entire day.

In Winter, Eskom is capable of planning maintenance work during non-peak times but in summer the patterns from consumers are different and therefore it becomes more of a challenge
