A 27-year-old man has been arrested after he allegedly sent Eskom Chief Operating Officer Jan Oberholzer a bomb threat.
Eskom spokesperson Sikhonathi Mantshantsha said the man was arrested on Friday in the Vosman area at eMalahleni in Mpumalanga.
It’s alleged he sent Oberholzer the bomb threat in May.
Mantshantsha said it was also established that the suspect used an unregistered sim card to send the threatening message, saying there was overwhelming evidence linking him to the alleged crime.
“The targeting of Eskom executives and employees who are focused and hard at work during these difficult times, is very disturbing,” said Advocate Karen Pillay, General Manager of Security at Eskom.
“Such acts of criminality are malicious and Eskom takes them seriously.”
Pillay said other Eskom executives have also been targeted in recent months.
The suspect is expected to appear in court soon.
