CAPE TOWN, August (ANA) - South Africans can expect another round of power disruptions during the Wednesday evening peak as Eskom warned wildcat strikes at its power plants has now led to them implementing Stage 2 rotational load-shedding.
Loadshedding is done as a last resort to protect the power system from total collapse. For the past few days, Eskom has implemented Stage one load-shedding. In a statement, Eskom said it now has to move to Stage 2.
"Stage 2 calls for 2000MW to rotationally load shed nationally at a given period," the statement said.
Electricity users can consult the load-shedding schedules on the Eskom website or those of the municipalities they reside in.
The power utility advised people to use electricity sparingly.
"Please switch off geysers during the day as well as all non-essential lighting and electricity appliances to assist in reducing demand."
