The Department of Correctional Services (DCS) says the escaped inmate, Martin Jackson, is back behind bars.
DCS spokesperson Singabakho Nxumalo said his “swift apprehension” demonstrated the Department’s commitment to ensuring that all inmates serve their sentences as mandated by the courts.
Jackson escaped from a correctional facility in Boksburg on Wednesday, where he was serving a 20-year sentence for robbery, theft and firearms charges.
“The Department of Correctional Services is conducting a full investigation to understand the circumstances surrounding the escape and to prevent future incidents.
“The inmate will now face additional criminal charges related to the escape,” Nxumalo added.
