ERMELO, January 13 (ANA) - A man and his wife were seriously injured when they were attacked by unknown assailants in Ermelo in Mpumalanga on Friday night, paramedics said.
"It is believed that a man, 55, and his wife, 60, were walking to a cafe in Ermelo [at about 10 pm] when a white [VW] Golf with three males stopped close to them. The men jumped out of the car and shots were fired at the couple," ER24 spokeswoman Annine Siddall said on Saturday.
"The man was hit in his leg and it is believed that the men then abducted his wife. The woman was later found near Ermelo location in the veld. She had been hacked over her head and suffered severe head trauma as a result."
ER24 transported her husband to a nearby hospital for further medical care and she was treated by other emergency services on the scene. Local authorities were investigating the incident, Siddall said.
