Police Minister Bheki Cele is expected to receive a full report on Monday on the tragedy that unfolded in Ennerdale over the weekend where 11 people were shot.
A spokesperson for the Minister, Lirandzu Themba says according to an initial report, four suspects attempted to rob street vendors on Saturday who were busy selling chicken feet.
She says the vendors resisted and pelted their vehicle with stones that hit and damaged their rear window.
Themba says the suspects initially drove off but later came back on foot, with firearms, where they proceeded to shoot 11 people.
Six died on the scene while five others are recovering in hospital.
Cele is expected to address the media in the afternoon.
