GROBLERSDAL, April 22 (ANA) – Eleven people have been arrested in a special joint operation by various police units in Zaaiplaas near Groblersdal after they were allegedly involved in an arson incident following a murder earlier this week, Limpopo police said on Saturday.
Those arrested were aged between 17 and 52 years and would be charged with arson and public violence, Lt-Col Moatshe Ngoepe said.
It was alleged that local community members “mobilised and burnt the houses” of a murder suspect’s parents, including an eight bedroom house, a RDP house, and a shack, all with an estimated value of R250,000.
The murder suspect, Lolo Madonsela, 30, appeared in the Groblersdal Magistrate’s Court this week on a charge of murder and was remanded in custody with no bail until May 25 pending further police investigations.
“It is alleged that on Tuesday the 2017-04-18 in the morning at about 07:30 the suspect was found by a passer-by brutally killing his 39-year-old next door neighbour woman with a sharp object at Zaaiplaas New Stands outside Groblesdal. The deceased was identified as Anna Mashifane aged 39 years.”
The arson and public violence suspects would appear in the Groblersdal Magistrate’s Court on Monday and more arrests were imminent. The police investigations were continuing, Ngoepe said.
