Elderly woman's hands and feet burnt with blowtorch during house robbery

The victim's stolen bakkie and some of her household goods were retrieved by police

SAPS

Police in Gauteng have arrested three suspects following a robbery and assault of an elderly woman on her plot in Leeufontein in Bronkhorstspruit.

Police spokesperson Captain Kay Makhubela says it is alleged that eight suspects gained entry to the plot shortly after midnight on Thursday and woke up the 84-year-old by shining a torch in her eyes.

He says they then dragged her to a bathroom where they burnt her hands and feet with a blow torch before locking her up.

Captain Makhubela says a woman who worked for the elderly victim was tied up at the back of the house.

The suspects ransacked the house and fled with cash and household goods in the victim's Ford Ranger that was later found abandoned.

Police put together a multidisciplinary task team and on the same day managed to arrest three suspects, two men and a woman who was in possession of suspected stolen property belonging to the victim.

The search for the remaining suspects continues.

The victim was taken to hospital for medical assistance.
