A 64-year-old woman from Sasolburg has been released on warning after she was caught on video tampering with ANC election posters.
Police spokesperson Brigadier Motantsi Makhele says the complainant who filmed the incident opened a case at the local police station for contravention of the Electoral Act 73 of 1998.
He says, by law, removing election material is illegal and can be considered vandalism or tampering with campaign materials.
Brigadier Makhele says it is essential to respect the democratic process and allow political parties and candidates to display their materials, as permitted by law.
He says the woman was warned to appear in court on the 22nd of May hence her name was not released to the public.
