Three people were killed, and 14 others were injured in a six-vehicle collision on the N1 in Lochvaal in Gauteng
ER24 said paramedics responded to the crash scene on Sunday afternoon.
Spokesperson, Russel Meiring said, “medics found an elderly couple and a man lying motionless inside the one vehicle.”
He said unfortunately, all three had already succumbed to their injuries.
“Approximately fourteen other patients were tended to on the scene. A mother was in critical condition while her two daughters, aged 11 and 14, had sustained minor injuries,” Meiring said.
The cause of the accident is still under investigation, but Meiring said it is alleged that smoke from a nearby veld fire was a contributing factor.
Police have opened culpable homicide dockets in the matter.
