Police in Brandfort in the Free State have arrested a suspect on suspicion of murder after an elderly butcher was stabbed to death outside his business on Tuesday.
Spokesperson Captain Loraine Earle says in the late afternoon the 70-year-old Lambertus Lochner went to his butchery to check in on business when he confronted a man stealing cables.
She says Lochner confronted the suspect who then stabbed him in the chest and arm.
Captain Earle says Lochner called out to his wife who rushed him to a hospital in Bloemfontein where he passed away.
She says within hours police traced a 57-year-old suspect and made an arrest.
The man is expected to appear in the local magistrate's court on Friday.
