Eighteen killed in building fire in Joburg CBD

Eighteen people have been killed after a fire broke out in a five-story building in the Johannesburg CDB.

Spokesperson for Emergency Services in Johannesburg Robert Mulaudzi says among the deceased is a one-year-old.

He says firefighters responded to the blaze in the early hours of Thursday morning where dozens were also treated for smoke inhalation and other injuries.

Mulaudzi says the cause of the fire is not yet known.

Emergency services are still on the scene.
