Eight people were killed after a metal staircase in a Khayelitsha building collapsed on Sunday.
Western Cape police spokesperson Andre Traut says six people died at the scene, while two other seriously injured people died when the private vehicle they were being transported in collided with another car on their way to hospital.
Traut says the victims were all females between the ages of 15 and 23.
Police have opened an inquest docket to probe if anyone could be held responsible for the collapse of the staircase.
A culpable homicide case was also opened to investigate the car accident.
