The country's editors say they will continue to publish pictures of upgrades to President Jacob Zuma's homestead at Nkandla, despite warnings by government that they would be breaking the law.
The SA National Editors' Forum was reacting to a statement yesterday from Police Minister Nathi Mthethwa that publication of national key points was tantamount to breaking the law and that the media would be prosecuted.
But, Sanef said the purpose of the National Key Points Act was to prevent security measures at national key points from being revealed.
The Forum said in this case, it seemed that the ministers were using security laws to avoid accounting to the public on the Nkandla upgrades.
It also pointed out that images of other national key points like the union buildings and parliament are published regularly.
In a clear sign of defiance, Die Burger, Herald and Times all carried front page photographs of Nkandla on Friday.
