EC SAPS arrest suspects for possessing dagga plants

Eastern Cape police have arrested four people this weekend for being in possession of dagga plants.

Police spokesperson, Captain Jackson Manatha, said three men were arrested by Willowvale police on Saturday for being in possession of dagga plants.

"All the suspects aged 37, 58 and 65 were arrested on Saturday 11 February 2017. Police intelligence led to the arrests of the suspects," he said.

Meanwhile, Manatha said a 35-year-old woman was also arrested for being in possession of dagga plants at Kei Bridge.

Last week an 81-year-old woman pleaded guilty in the Willowvale Magistrate's Court in the Eastern Cape to the possession of eight dagga plants.

Police said at the time that Nowezile Mncoko was arrested on Wednesday, February 1, for being in possession of dagga plants which were growing in her yard in Mente Village.

Eight plants to the value of R2000 were uprooted.
