Hundreds of mineworkers from the Eastern Cape who developed illnesses while working on mines, will be part of a massive law suit against gold mining companies.
While exact details will only be unveiled on Thursday, the legal action will seek to hold these companies accountable for their apparent disregard for the humanity and dignity of their employees.
The Treatment Action Campaign and Sonke Gender Justice, say hundreds of thousands of mine workers have developed silicosis and/or TB in recent decades due to insufficient safety precautions taken by gold mining companies operating in South Africa.
The case is set down for next Monday and Tuesday in the south Gauteng High Court.
