Two Eastern Cape men are due to appear in court on Monday for hijacking a car from its owner in Willowvale.
Police spokesperson, Captain Jackson Manatha, said however, that swift reaction by Willowvale Police resulted in the arrests of the two men.
“It is alleged that a motorist was driving from Mpozolo Village to Gwadu Village at Willowvale on Saturday 24 June 2017 during the afternoon. He drove past a tavern when suddenly three men stood in the middle of the road. One the suspects pelted the car with a stone,” he said.
Captain Manatha said the driver stopped the car and three suspects then got into the vehicle “and allegedly pushed the owner out of the car.”
“The car hijacking case was reported to Willowvale Police at about 23:00 on the day in question. Police acted very swiftly and found the car abandoned at Ntsimbakazi Village, Willowvale during the midnight of Saturday 24 June 2017,” he said.
“One of the suspects was found with the car keys of the hijacked car,” Manatha said.
He said they hope to arrest the third suspect soon.
Butterworth Cluster, Brigadier Trevor Mey, has praised Willowvale police for their swift reaction and for recovering the car.
