The Eastern Cape Department of Education says it wants to suspend the two learners who were allegedly involved a fight which led to the death of another learner at the Nathaniel Pamla Secondary School in Peddie.
Department spokesperson, Malibongwe Mtima, said on Friday that the 17-year-old deceased was apparently trying to stop a fight between two learners in which knives were used.
Mtima said one of the learners allegedly stabbed the deceased with a sharp object and he was declared dead upon arrival in hospital.
He also confirmed that one of the learners involved was arrested on Thursday night but said that the Department was also conducting its own internal investigation.
Mtima said the learners who were involved in the initial fight will face disciplinary action while counselling services will also be provided to other learners who witnessed the incident.
