Police Management in the Eastern Cape handed over 27 vehicles to various provincial clusters at the provincial headquarters in King Williams Town on Wednesday.
Safety and Liaison MEC, Weziwe Tikana, said the additional vehicles would help improve police visibility which is a key part of the back-to-basics policing approach.
She said the delivery and implementation of integrated crime-fighting strategies will undoubtedly add to the strengthening of our ability and effort to tackle crime.
“We are committed to building a crime free Eastern Cape,” said MEC Tikana.
“While we celebrate this milestone, we need to put systems in place for proper management of these resources,” she said.
Eastern Cape Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant-General Liziwe Ntshinga said the distribution of new vehicles must be seen as an essential step towards realizing SAPS collective goal which is to make this province a crime free zone.
“The twenty seven new vehicles will ensure that our Back to Basics policing approach is executed by increased police visibility on our highways and bi-ways, and to support the National Trio Crimes Action Plan,” she said.
“Trio Crimes or the three most serious crimes in our country include Car-Hijacking, Robbery-Residential and Robbery-Non-Residential. These four vehicles, have been allocated specifically to the Motherwell Cluster for this purpose as it is our number one priority area in the Province in the fight against trio crimes,” said General Ntshinga.
