An Eastern Cape police has died after the police vehicle he was in hit a horse and capsized near Mount Frere.
Eastern Cape police spokesperson, Brigadier Marinda Mills, said that the deceased was 57-year-old Captain Decca Mhlelembamba.
“Captain Decca Mhlelembana, attached to Mount Frere SAPS, was on duty together with a colleague. The two members were travelling in a police vehicle with two informants and on their way to Mvuzi Admin Area, following up on information on a new case reported to the police,” she said.
“Their vehicle collided with a horse and capsized. Captain Mhlelembana sustained head injuries and was certified dead at the scene,” Mills said.
“The other passengers survived the accident with less serious injuries.”
"This officer lost his life while in service to his community and we will render our best possible support to his family during this difficult time", she said.
