Big waves battered East London’s beachfront on Thursday sending some beachgoers scurrying.
A brief statement from the police said that vehicles and some beachfront buildings were affected.
Two women suffered minor injuries.
“Injuries and damage were being assessed,” said provincial police spokesperson Brigadier Marinda Mills.
“No deaths were reported,” she said.
Videos and photos posted on social media showed big waves crashing onto the main beach road leading to its closure.
Algoa FM News was told that port authorities were monitoring swells of up to 11m.
