Unions, opposition parties and businesson Saturday applauded the decision by the High Court in Pretoria to put the controversial e-toll system on hold with immediate effect.
The Congress of SA Trade Unions said the decision would allow more time to look at alternative methods of funding road construction and usage, while the Democratic Alliance said the ruling opened the door for getting the system scrapped.
Business Unity SA's deputy chief executive, Raymond Parsons said they hoped that the time will be used to engage constructively with key stakeholders on the concerns which arose around the implementation of e-tolling.
