A 39-year-old woman is expected to appear in the Durban magistrates' court on Wednesday in connection with multiple counts of estate fraud.
Police spokesperson Captain Nqobile Gwala said the woman was arrested on charges of falsely advertising flats for sale between September 2018 and October 2019.
Gwala said her modus operandi was to request victims to deposit large sums of cash into her bank account in order to secure a flat.
The accused is a former employee of an estate agent firm, where she was responsible for managing rentals for flat owners.
She is accused of preparing false contract documents for her victims to sign.
It is alleged that she embezzled a total of R1.2 million.
