The Independent Police Investigative Directorate says it's investigating the death of a 12-year-old Durban boy who was shot and killed after his police officer father allegedly mistook him for an intruder.
IPID says it is understood that that officer was asleep in his Manor Gardens home yesterday when he heard his son shouting for help.
The officer is said to have spotted someone at the window when he woke up and took his service pistol and fired shots toward the window.
The boy died on arrival at the hospital.
IPID says the boy's father has been arrested and will appear in court on Tuesday.
