A 22-year man was sentenced in the Durban High Court on Thursday to 25 years imprisonment for killing his 80-year old neighbour.
Natasha Ramkisson-Kara, spokeswoman for the National Prosecuting Authority, said that Warren Ryan Krishna was convicted on one count of murder and one count of aggravated robbery.
Krishna was handed a 25-year sentence for the murder of Satthiama Moses and a further 12 years for robbing the woman.
The court was told that Krishna entered Moses’ house in Durban’s Phoenix area on the night of November 3 last year. He stabbed her before making off with jewellery and cash. Another neighbour discovered the octogenarian’s body the next day.
Ramkisson-Kara said the two sentences would run concurrently meaning that Krishna would have to serve an effective 25 years.
