A company director from Durban made a brief appearance in the Specialised Commercial Crimes Court this week for TERS fraud worth over a million Rand.
Thirty-seven-year-old Phathiswa Bodlani allegedly registered 49 employees at the Department of Labour for Unemployment Insurance Fund (UIF).
Police spokesperson Captain Simphiwe Mhlongo says the employees were registered between April and August 2020.
He says Bodlani allegedly claimed R1 009 338.00.
Captain Mhlongo says it was later discovered by the Department of Labour that some employees who she registered did not work for her company.
The case was handed over to the Hawks who arrested Bodlani.
She is currently out on bail of R5 000 and will make her next court appearance on the 20th of May.
