Duduzane Zuma makes brief court appearance

JOHANNESBURG, July (ANA) - Businessman Duduzane Zuma, the son of former president Jacob Zuma, arrived in leg irons at the Specialised Commercial Crime Court on Monday, where he made a brief appearance before he was granted bail of R100,000 and his corruption matter postponed.

Zuma, who has been out of the country for months, was cited as the go-between in the R600-million-bribe offer allegedly made to then deputy finance minister Mcebisi Jonas. He returned to South Africa on Thursday and was briefly detained at the OR Tambo International Airport.

Zuma returned to attend his brother Vusi's funeral at the weekend.

The state, which alleges that Zuma and his business partners the Gupta Brothers hatched a plot to entice Jonas to do their bidding by offering him the bribe, did not oppose bail.

As part of his bail conditions, Zuma agreed to hand in his passport.

The matter has been postponed to 24 January 2019 to allow for further investigations.

Zuma's business partners the Gupta brothers - Ajay and Atul - left South Africa months ago and have not been back since.
