A Durban policeman who appeared to be very drunk while responding to a complaint is under investigation.
KwaZulu Natal police spokesperson, Brigadier Jay Naicker, said another Constable who drove the police vehicle is also under investigation for failing to take any action against his colleague.
He said this inaction is "viewed as serious misconduct and a senior officer has been appointed to investigate the matter".
A video of the apparently drunk policeman went viral on social media. He has since been placed on desk duty and his firearm removed.
"We wish to thank members of the public who blow the whistle on corruption and misconduct within the ranks of the South African Police Services," Naicker said in a statement on Thursday.
