Eastern Cape police are searching for a motorist whose car fatally wounded a cyclist on Saturday morning.
Provincial transport department spokesperson Unathi Binqose said the hit and run happened on the Amalinda on-ramp off the N2 road from Mdantsane.
Binqose said the deceased, a male aged approximately 60 years old, was cycling on the yellow lane when an unknown vehicle hit him and his bicycle.
He died on the spot and the motorist fled the scene.
A case of culpable homicide docket has been opened.
Binqose called on the motorist to come forward.
“Eyewitnesses have given the details of this vehicle to the police. That therefore means they are on the heels of the perpetrator,” he said.
“If you are the person that was responsible for this, albeit accidentally, the best thing you can do for yourself is to report to the nearest police station and cooperate because failure to that will result in you facing even more serious charges,” said Binqose.
