A man accused of a double murder on a smallholding in the Northern Cape has been granted bail of R5000 by the Springbok district court.
The National Prosecuting Authority said 59-year-old Jacobus (Japie) Claassens, appeared in the Springbok District Court on Thursday where he officially applied for bail.
NPA spokesperson, Mojalefa Senokoatsane, said he is charged with two counts of murder and two of attempted murder.
The two deceased were 54-year-old Coenraad de Beer, a lawyer from the Garden Route, and 56-year-old business owner, James Kriel.
The motive for the shooting is not yet known.
Senokoatsane said among the bail conditions imposed on Claassens are that he should report to the nearest police station every Saturday, have no contact with witnesses directly or indirectly, and remain at his current address.
He said he must also surrender his passport, not be involved in a schedule one offence, and report his movements to the investigating officer within 24 hours if he were to leave his address.
The matter was postponed to 13 December for further investigations in the Vioolsdrift District Court.
