Gauteng police have arrested four suspects for the murder of a 33-year-old woman who was shot dead in her car at traffic lights in Vanderbijlpark.

“Among those arrested is the medical doctor, who is reported to be the ex-husband of the deceased,” police spokesperson, Lieutenant-Colonel Mavela Masondo.

He said the arrests were made by a task team established after Friday morning’s shooting in Hendrik van Eck Boulevard.

“On their arrival at the scene, police found the woman who was in the driver’s seat of a Nissan NP200 bakkie, with multiple bullet wounds on her body. She was certified dead on the scene.

“Preliminary investigation revealed that suspects, who were driving a Honda FRV motor vehicle, shot the woman while at the robots,” Masondo said.

He said the task team followed up on information that led them to Sharpeville and Vereeniging, where the four were arrested and a firearm and vehicle recovered.

The four suspects are due to appear in court on Monday.
