JOHANNESBURG, June (ANA) - Minister in the Presidency Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma will on Monday launch the annual Youth Month to remember students who fought against the introduction of the Afrikaans language as a medium of instruction at black schools in 1976.
The launch will be held at the historic Hector Peterson Museum in Orlando, Soweto.
''In line with government’s programme to celebrate the centenary year of Nelson Mandela and Albertina Sisulu, Youth Month 2018 will be commemorated under the theme “Live the Legacy: Towards A Socio-Economically Empowered Youth”,'' the National Youth Development Agency (NYDA) said in a statement.
''The event will be attended by Minister in the Presidency for Planning, Monitoring, and Evaluation Dr. Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma who will deliver the keynote address. During the launch, a programme of activities aimed at addressing youth unemployment will be unveiled. Preservation of the legacy of our struggle heroes showcasing beneficiaries of the NYDA will be at the center of the commemorations.''
National Youth Day is commemorated on June 16 in South Africa.
