Rural Development Minister, Gugile Nkwinti, says District Six land claimants who opted for restoration of their land will be able to return to their land this year.
This follows a meeting with claimants over the weekend
Nkwinti said the indigent will be given priority by the Social Integration Committee when the empty houses are allocated to the claimants in District Six this year.
The return of the land claimants comes some 50 years after the forced removal of people from District Six by the apartheid government and dumped largely on the Cape Flats.
