The Independent Police Investigative Directorate (Ipid) has declined to comment on reports that musician Khuli Chana tried to run over police officers before he was shot and wounded.
IPID's Moses Dlamini said the investigation was still on-going as the incident happened just two days ago.
The Star reports that Chana, whose real name is Khulane Morule, was branded a liar by friends of a Bedfordview kidnap victim.
The lawyer for one of the friends of the Bedfordview businessman told the newspaper that Chana had tried to run over the officers who had allegedly attempted to flag him down at a roadblock.
Chana was shot and wounded by police on Monday at a Caltex garage along the N1 highway in Midrand.
Police mistook his luxury vehicle to be that of the kidnappers whom they were tracking.
The officers are facing charges of attempted murder.
A Pretoria-based policeman was also arrested and is due to appear in the Germiston Regional Court on Wednesday to face charges of kidnapping and extortion.
