Decline in daily covid19 cases in prisons – DCS

The Department of Correctional Services said it was seeing a “gradual decline” in the number of daily Covid19 cases.

In its latest statement, the Department said that this was coupled by a “surge in recoveries”, which stand at 74%, according to the spokesperson, Logan Maistry.

He said the Eastern Cape has 770 officials who had tested positive for Covid19, while there were 1 073 inmates who were positive.

Maistry said that six officials and eight inmates in the province had succumbed to the virus while there were 1 635 recoveries.

He said at a national level there were 3 263 officials who had tested positive for Covid19 while there were 1 724 inmates who are positive.

Maistry said there were 3 693 recoveries in Correctional Centres countrywide.
