Former police colonel Eugene de Kock has been denied parole after more than two decades in prison for murders committed under the apartheid regime.
Justice and Correctional Services Minister Michael Masutha made the announcement this morning and said parole was denied because the families of some of his victims were not consulted during the parole process.
Masutha recommended that a further parole report be re-submitted no later than 12 months from today, instead of the two-year period prescribed by law.
De Kock, nicknamed "Prime Evil", was in charge of an apartheid era police "death squad" at Vlakplaas, prior to his arrest in 1994.
