The Danish weapons dealer from Bloemfontein who is currently applying for bail in the city's Magistrate's Court was found with a cell phone in his prison cell.
The State is cross-examining Peter Frederiksen, who stands accused of assault, manufacturing and distributing of child pornography, removal of human tissue, conspiracy and bigamy, among others.
He told the court that anyone can have a phone in prison if he wants to. The 63-year-old also said he doesn't regard the pictures that he took as of a pornographic nature. The State Prosecutor said medicine used by veterinary surgeons was found in Frederiksen's possession. In his motivation why he should be released on bail the accused said he has a business to take care of and this cannot be done from prison.
Earlier he testified that his assets are worth some R2 million, including a house and 5 hectares of land in Lesotho. The case continues.
The National Population Register indicates that he is single, while upon further investigation by the Department of Home Affairs, it was established that he is married to one Vivian in Denmark. His Lesotho-wife, who reported him to the police, was shot and killed as she left her Lesotho home in October.
The Hawks are investigating the possibility that Frederiksen was involved.
