The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) has welcomed the 10 years suspended jail sentence imposed on Emmanuel Tshabalala who accidentally shot and killed his son in Ennerdale, Johannesburg last year.
The NPA said it was satisfied that Tuesday's sentence considered the seriousness of the offence, the interest of justice and that of society as well as the personal circumstances of the accused.
Tshabalala accidentally shot and killed his son, Luyanda, on the premises of Fred Norman Secondary School in Ennerdale, on 5 June, when he thought he was being hijacked.
In terms of a plea and sentence agreement, Tshabalala was sentenced to 10 years, wholly suspended for five years.
He was further declared unfit to possess a firearm.
