The Democratic Alliance said Tuesday’s raid by the Special Investigative Unit on the offices of the National Lotteries Commission was a result of sustained pressure by the opposition party.
DA MP, Matt Cuthbert, said at the beginning of the year the party had fought to get the lists of 2017/2018, 2018/2019 and Covid-19 Relief Fund beneficiaries from the NLC, “ who mounted a Stalingrad defence to prevent this from happening.”
However, he said their ability to constantly keep the matter on the agenda of the Parliamentary Committee, the laying of criminal charges and the “immense pressure” placed Minister Patel, led to these lists being released.
Cuthbert said, in addition, the DA blew the lid on the Hangwani Mulaudzi scandal, in which R3 Million was granted to the former Hawks spokesperson who allegedly used the money to pay kickbacks and purchase a taxi fleet.
“We will not stop until all of those implicated in corruption and maladministration are held accountable for their actions,” he said.
