'DA united and ready to bring change in 2019'

The Democratic Alliance said it was a united party ready bring about change in 2019.

DA national spokesperson, Refiloe Nt’sekhe, was responding to a City Press report suggesting that the party was about to split amid serious tensions over race, transformation, and policy.

The newspaper said some senior leaders were unhappy with the party leader, Mmusi Maimane and were reportedly looking at Western Cape premier, Helen Zille, to lead the breakaway.

In a statement, Nt’sekhe said pointed to the DA’s federal Congress last month which she said was the “biggest and most diverse Federal Congress” which “brought together thousands of delegates who reaffirmed their confidence in the party and the leadership they elected.”

She said at the congress, the DA recommitted each member and public representative to the party’s values, vision for South Africa and outlined an African liberal agenda for our country.

Nt’sekhe said as such, the report in the City Press on Sunday was are nothing more than rumours and gossip.

“These fictitious ‘senior leaders’ are not even mentioned once in the story but comments from the CEO of a think tank seek to give these rumours importance,” she said.

“We are more confident than ever that we will grow our support where we govern and confidently become the biggest party in both Gauteng and the Northern Cape,” Nt’sekhe said.
